Our History

Founded in 1963, Select Optical is one of the largest and most experienced optical laboratories in the country.  Created by the vision of an independent OD and optician, the original business was conducted in a small house.  The OD had the exam room in the front of the house, and the optician had a   dispensary and laboratory located in the back of the house!

As the business grew, the men (Dr. Bernard Abrams and Del Lothes) decided they needed a larger facility and found a building on the north end of Columbus that was an old steel processing plant.  They purchased the building and began to craft it into an optical lab.  Over the years it has grown from 10 employees to the current size of 115 employees.

Who is our Customer?

Select Optical services the independent OD and Optician in Ohio and surrounding states, as well as various state managed vision care plans, and produces safety glasses for the work environment for many businesses across America!  Our skilled craftsman still do most of the work by hand.  Computers cannot insert a lens into a frame.

Select Optical has a very simple philosophy:
